Treelicious is keeping a family tradition of farming alive for its 7th generation. Located in western New Jersey, in the heart of Warren County, alongside a stop on the old Morris Canal, their 130-acre orchards produce many varieties of fruit, both heritage varieties and new hybrids. Ed and Carol Kesler purchased this working farm back in the 1980s as a place to raise both a family and the proper food to feed them.
The well-drained hillsides are perfect for fruit trees, and they reminded Ed of his childhood home in West Virginia “hollers.” Carol got a chance to bring her childhood memories to life when she opened Just Made Bakery in October 1997 and started using the recipes with which she grew up.
At Just Made Bakery, they like to tempt their customers with a number of irresistible treats, among them being our Cider Doughnuts, a cinnamon-y ring of soft cake that goes well with their Orchard’s fresh-pressed cider.
They also bake a variety of muffins, often with their fresh-picked orchard fruit in ’em, like Apple Blueberry, and Peach. Or try their home-grown Zucchini muffins. Other favorites include Healthy Morning (with oat bran, raisins, carrot), Pistachio, Butterscotch Rum, Lemon Poppy, Mandarin Cranberry, and Corn (sometimes filled with jelly or with salsa!).
For later in the day, they bake a variety of cakes and cookies. They always have Carrot cake (with cream cheese icing) and Brownies on hand. And they will bake and decorate to order cakes for occasions (6″, 8″, 10″ round; 1/4 or 1/2 sheets). Their cookies include the traditional Chocolate Chip, Sugar, and Oatmeal Raisin, along with the new-fangled M&M and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip (for those who like a healthy reward!). And they can bake all of their goods to meet special requirements for sugar-free or gluten-free diets. In fact, their Chocolate Meringue cookies have plenty of fans who do not know that they are gluten-free!
